Features

Make heavy CAD models light. Free, private, on your own machine.

MeshOptimiser: One button, half the triangles
01One button, half the trianglesSmart optimise runs every clean-up in order, then reduces to your target. This truck axle went from 540,007 triangles to 270,248. One Ctrl+Z puts it all back.
02Quick decimatePress B and a column of levels opens under the pointer. Move down it and the part changes as you go; let go to keep it. This bracket goes from 1,802 triangles to 900 at 50%.
MeshOptimiser: Bolts, found by their shape
03Bolts, found by their shapeCAD names rarely say what a part is. Fasteners reads each part’s outline and finds bolts, screws, nuts and washers, and leaves bushings and bearings alone. 376 here, 354,399 triangles, 9.6% of the scene.
MeshOptimiser: 9,572 triangles down to 96
049,572 triangles down to 96Smart fit swaps a heavy part for a box, a cylinder or a few blocks that keep its outline. This axle part went from 9,572 triangles to 96, same size and place.
05Pull it apartOne slider, and a pill for each axis, so an assembly can open along one direction only. Drag it and an axle comes apart. One click puts it back.
MeshOptimiser: Library and materials, side by side
06Library and materials, side by sideThe library drawer, the materials dock, the material editor and the colour picker, open together over the model.
MeshOptimiser: Materials
07MaterialsEvery material in the scene, with how many parts use it. Open one to set its colour, metalness, roughness and more, and the parts that use it change together. Here a pink material used by 2 parts, with its colour picker open and the selected part ready to take it.
MeshOptimiser: Keyboard remapper
08Keyboard remapperThe shortcuts window is a keyboard. Press any keys to see what they do, click a shortcut to change it, and keep your set in a profile.
MeshOptimiser: Appearance
09AppearanceAccent colour, surfaces, font and text size.

Before and after

Drag the line. Same axle, far fewer triangles.

On the left is the front axle as it came, 250,075 triangles. On the right is what the app’s own simplifier makes of it. Pick how far to go and drag the line to compare.

Smart optimise on the gearbox: every clean-up in order, aiming at half the triangles.

Model: Mercedes-Benz Arocs 8×8 front axle. Trademarks belong to their owners; not affiliated. The right side is a real run of the simplifier the app’s Decimate uses; the numbers are counted, not typed.

Fasteners

Find every bolt. Take it out.

This engine is 1,295 parts, and 376 of them are bolts, nuts and washers. Find them, take them out, and watch what that does to the triangle count. Drag to turn the model.

The fasteners of a Scania V8 engine found by shape and marked.

Model: a Scania V8 engine, a light copy made for this page. Trademarks belong to their owners; not affiliated. Here the fasteners are picked out by part name; the app finds them by their shape, in one click.

Mesh clean-up

The tools this app is for.

Bolt holes nobody will see. Screws sealed inside housings. Parts drawn twice. Found by shape, gone in one click, back with one undo.

01Remove holesv15Bolt holes, slots, pockets and lettering: closed, with their walls. Nothing else changes.Read more about Remove holes

03Fastenersv6Every bolt, screw, nut and washer, found by shape. Whatever the CAD file called them.Read more about Fasteners
04Smart fitv3Two heavy parts: 72,666 triangles down to 212. Same size, same place, same outline.Read more about Smart fit
05Splitv6One fused lump becomes the separate solids it always was.Read more about Split
06Smart optimisev1Every clean-up above, in one press. 646,064 triangles down to 322,988, and one undo puts it all back.Read more about Smart optimise
07Remove floating piecesv2Plugs, shavings and stray dots, gone. The main body always stays.Read more about Remove floating pieces
08Remove hidden facesv1Deletes faces that never show: inside a housing, where two parts meet.Read more about Remove hidden faces
09Triangulationv3Flat faces rebuilt with the fewest triangles. The shape doesn’t move.Read more about Triangulation
10Delete small partsv1Screws and clips too small to see, gone. A slider and a preview show what goes.Read more about Delete small parts

13Remove filletsSmall rounds and chamfers taken off a STEP part. The faces on either side are extended until they meet, and the sharp edge is back.Read more about Remove fillets
14Remove thicknessA thin wall becomes the one surface it stands for: a pipe keeps its outside, a bent sheet keeps one face.Read more about Remove thickness
15Remove lettering and logosRaised or engraved text and logos, however the CAD program made them, gone. The surface underneath stays as it was.Read more about Remove lettering and logos
16Fill solid roundA gear, a fan with fins or a clutch with cooling ribs, made one solid round shape that fills its whole outline. A good stand-in seen from a distance.Read more about Fill solid round

Meshopt
Small and quick to open. About a fifth of the size, built for the web.
Draco
The smallest file. About an eighth of the size, for when every kilobyte counts.
Faster to draw
Same file size, smoother on screen. Opens in any viewer.

Measured on the Khronos sample models (Gearbox, Reciprocating Saw, Two-Cylinder Engine) with glTF Transform 4.1: Meshopt at high, Draco at its defaults. 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes. Very light meshes can come out larger with Draco.

Big assemblies

Find and organise

  • Built for big assembliesTen thousand rows, still smooth.
  • Search and filtersFind parts by name, with the small ones tinted.
  • Search (Shift + C)Commands, settings, parts, library: one box. Typos and initials still find it.
  • Batch rename (F2)Templates, regex, live preview, presets.
  • Select by ruleName, material, size, triangles: pick by rule, with a live count.
  • Typo-proof part searchWords in any order, quotes, or, minus, >5000 triangles. A typo still finds it.

Make new parts

Build and arrange

  • A Draw tool (L)Pen, rectangle, circle, arc, polygon, freehand: on any plane or on a part’s face.
  • Align partsAlign or spread parts and whole groups along X, Y and Z, with a gap if you want one. One undo.
  • Sweepv2Carry a profile along a path. Scale, twist, closed ends. The result is a normal part.

Export and deliver

  • GLB and glTFDraco or Meshopt compression. Textures embedded if you want.
  • FBX, USDZ, OBJ, STL, PLYThe common 3D and AR formats, with mm, cm, m and inch presets.
  • Check against where it’s goingTest the scene against web, Shopify, AR Quick Look or phone-app limits.
  • Parts listA CSV bill of materials: every part and its size.
  • Lighter, or just faster to drawMeshopt cuts a GLB to about a quarter. Or keep the size and draw faster.

Notes

Review together

  • Notes on the modelPress N, click a spot, write. A numbered pin stays on the part, with a picture of the view it was written from.
  • Replies, edits and resolveAnyone can answer, edit or resolve. An edit keeps what it replaced; a delete leaves who deleted it.
  • Every change has a nameType your name once. Every note, comment and edit shows who and when, and each note has a history.
  • Notes in the scene fileSaved with the scene and opened with it. Export never writes notes, so a team comment cannot reach a customer.
  • Bring in another copy’s notesTwo people each worked on a copy? Bring in the other file and the notes are joined. Nobody’s words are lost.
  • A report anyone can openThe notes as one HTML page with pictures, who said what and the history. No app needed.

The app

Make it yours

  • Keyboard remapperThe shortcuts window is a keyboard: lit keys carry their command, and holding Ctrl, Shift or Alt shows what those do. Click a shortcut, press new keys, and a key that is taken warns you first. Keep your set in a profile, one per person.
  • A look of your ownAccent colour, tones, font, text size, corners and density.
  • Numbers you dragDrag any number sideways to change it, or click to type. Right-click to reset, step, double or halve it.
  • Cards over the modelTools open as cards you can move. Enter runs, Esc closes.
  • Scene tabsEach tab is its own scene. Opening a file never replaces your work. Copy parts from one tab, or one window, into another.
  • Floating Materials and LibraryPop either out as a window, move it, resize it. Both open side by side.
